Are you part of a Chaotic Family?

If you’ve Googled it, ‘A chaotic family is characterised by a home environment lacking predictability, structure, and calm. It typically features irregular routines, frequent interruptions, high background noise, and emotional volatility, making it difficult for family members to feel a sense of safety and relaxation.’

In plain English and from experience, a chaotic family is more than that; it’s like being followed constantly by a small car that, like Mary Poppins ’ handbag, is full of clowns. And each clown isn’t necessarily a family member - it could be a policeman, a social worker, a crazy ex, a waif or a stray, a neighbour or any kind of person who is carrying a cream pie of spicy drama, all ready and primed to slap you in the face with it.

If you’ve ever had to leave work in an emergency for reasons that are so off the wall you end up lying to your employer to tell them something less dramatic, if you’ve ever had to hide in a cupboard frantically trying to dial the emergency services, if you’ve ever found yourself nose to nose with someone much bigger and stronger ready to physically fight you in the middle of a Saturday afternoon in Asda, or found yourself on a Sunday morning clad in a hazmat suit, bagging up paperwork in a council house that hasn’t seen a binliner in it’s life, never mind a bottle of Domestos…then congratulations!

Like me, you too spend your life herding cats.
